The Bowanenkovo gas condensate field on the Russian peninsula of Jamal is one of the largest in the world. One of the first facilities in the complex to become operational is an LNG gas processing plant which has a capacity of 30 billion cubic metres of gas per year. The heaviest components weigh in the region of 7,000 tonnes. After manufacture has taken place by the module producer COOEC in Qingdao, China, these are then transported by the Chinese logistics service provider Zhejang Lida using 280 SPMT axle lines from Scheuerle (TII GROUP) and subsequently loaded onto barges.

The logistical measures required for shipping the components are based on the self-propelled TII SPMT modular transporter from Germany. For loading, the plant components must be moved a distance of one kilometre on a gravel track and then placed on a barge. A smooth and trouble-free operation has absolute top priority, explained Ralf Grützmacher, Area Manager TII Sales: “The clients err on the side of caution. For this transportation order, for example, there were very clear guidelines – only European equipment to be used under the load.” Delays would be extremely costly as they would affect the overall project.

Chinese companies COOEC Qingdao, COOEC Zhuhai and Penglai Offshore Jutal have been heavily involved in the construction of the Jamal project and are planning the production of plant components of up to 10,000 tonnes for additional projects in the future. A weight category which provides little problem for the vehicles of the TII Group. Seventy per cent of all transports over 3,000 tonnes and ninety per cent of all shipments of more than 5,000 tonnes are now carried out on modular, self-propelled vehicles of the TII Group. Unit weights of 15,000 tonnes – a world record – have already been transported with SPMTs from the TII Group.
