“My wife thinks I have lost it,” says Tim Martin (Managing Director) with a laugh. “All jokes apart, we obviously invest in these trailers for a reason. We plan to use both trailers for Terex machines to transport from factories in Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland and United Kingdom to deep seaports for shipment and also that we can load to mainland Europe. Machines these days are increasing in weight and dimensions and the low deck height and the low tare weight makes authorities more likely to pass permits.”

“To keep our fleet up-to-date, we are running the latest equipment with the latest technologies and innovation and Broshuis is always ahead with the latest innovations. Investing in new modern equipment also helps with the ever-changing regulations that we as heavy haulage specialist have to deal with through different agencies across the UK and Europe.”

Mar-Train chose the two pendular axle semi low loaders because of the flexibility these trailers offer. “The trailers have so many advantages over its competitors, with the purchase of these 2 trailers it allows us to run them under a number of different combinations. For example, we can use them as purchased, as 6-axle and 10-axle (3+7), but we can also remove the 3-axle dolly and have a 7-axle semi and then combine the dolly with the 6-axle semi to make a 9-axle combination. This then enables us to configure the trailers to specific customer/transport requirements. We can also add options in the future such as an extra 2-axle dolly or the new Broshuis ‘FLEX Axle’ that allows us to add extra axles if more capacity is needed. Other advantages are the 80-ton capacity hydraulic ramps, the hydraulic steady legs, the rubber flooring pads, the long stroke on suspension for additional ground clearance and the low loaded bed height.”

This year marks 29 years since Mar-Train bought its first (second-hand) Broshuis trailer. Then in 1999, a new Broshuis trailer was purchased for the first time. “We were looked after right from the start even when we only purchased a second-hand trailer (not even supplied by Broshuis)” says Tim. “Along with purchases from Broshuis and John Hudson Trailers (in Bawtry), we now have more than 70 in our fleet and they form the lion’s share of trailers in the Mar-Train fleet. We rate Broshuis very highly and the long working relationship with Broshuis alongside the working relationship with John Hudson Trailers works well for us. Good products, service and experience!”
